WOW! - I started taking Armour after YEARS on Levothyroxinethyroidstory.mivox.com was started as a simple blog dealing with my new diagnosis of hypothyroidism. Topics include medical information about hypothyroidism, information about hypothyroid medications like levothyroxine (Synthroid) and Armour Thyroid, as well as natural supplements like Thyromine, vincopectine and various vitamins and minerals. The site has now expanded to include discussion forums where other hypothyroid patients can discuss their experiences with hypothyroidism, and share tips for what medications, supplements and weight loss strategies have worked best for them.
Hi Everyone Here's my story. When I was 4 years old I had Graves Disease. I was skinny no matter how much I ate, had a rapid pulse, fast metabolism. I had the bulging eyes and the enlarged goiter typical of the disease. When I was 26, after I had my first child, I had enough of swinging back and forth from hypo to hyper. I decided to take radioactive iodine. The Endo who gave me the radioactive iodine said I had a 5% chance of becoming hypothyroid. Fast forward one year, and I had no thyroid function at all. Now I am completely Hypothyroid and have to take a full replacement dose of thyroid. For years I took Synthroid or Levoxyl. For years I battled depression, gaining weight, you know the story, I'm sure. I was given antidepressants and told to eat less. Finally when I was 48, I saw Mary Shoman's site, and saw that she suggested taking Cytomel with the Levothyroxine. I tried different doses of Cytomel with Levoxyl for 4 years. I felt a lot better, but still was heavy and still didn't feel perfect. Finally, after much research on the web I decided to try Armour. After two days on Armour, I felt normal. NORMAL. I didn't even know what normal felt like before this. I feel great. My Endocrinologist really pooh-poohed Armour. He thought it was ridiculous that I even try it but he agreed. I have no idea why the doctors are brainwashed into thinking that Armour is bad. My doctor didn't really know how to prescribe the Armour, so we did it by trial and error. He had no idea he was supposed to start me on a small dose, so he gave me 2 grains, equal to 120 mg. It was way too much T3 for me, so I did some research and broke it into fourths, and built up gradually. Now after a month, I am on 2 grains again. I think I should probably be on a higher dose because my weight is still not budging. I had TSH and Free T4 tests done, and both were in the normal range, so my doctor said I shouldn't increase it. Question: Is 2 grains or 120 mg. enough for full thyroid replacement? Warm wishes, add new comment | previous forum topic | next forum topic | quote |
