New To Hypothyroid-HELP!

thyroidstory.mivox.com was started as a simple blog dealing with my new diagnosis of hypothyroidism. Topics include medical information about hypothyroidism, information about hypothyroid medications like levothyroxine (Synthroid) and Armour Thyroid, as well as natural supplements like Thyromine, vincopectine and various vitamins and minerals. The site has now expanded to include discussion forums where other hypothyroid patients can discuss their experiences with hypothyroidism, and share tips for what medications, supplements and weight loss strategies have worked best for them.

My story begins a weeks and a half ago. I woke up on a Thurs with severe muscle and joint pain. My hands and feet were swollen and I felt exhausted and in a cloud. I assumed I was getting sick until 4 days had passed with no improvement and no other symptoms (IE:fever, stomach ache etc.) Finally I went to the E.R. on that Sat. & the doctor told me it my levels were low and I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. But also mentioned that I fit a lot of the symptoms for Fibromyalgia. I am now 8 days on 50mcg of Levothyroxine with very little improvement with the muscle and joint pain. There have been days like yesterday when I could hardly move. The pain is mostly in my upper arms, hips and the back of my legs. I am 29 yrs old, 5'6" and 126lbs. I have struggled with a lot of depression and axiety over the past few years which my doctor seems to think is related to the Hypothyroidism. I see my doctor again on Tues for my follow-up but my question is this, is it normal to experience SO much physical pain and when should I expect to feel normal again?? At this point, I'd just like to go thru my day without taking a handful of Ibeuprofin every 4-6 hours. PLEASE HELP:(

I too had the same thing happen to me when I was 26. I take Synthroid and there was no help. They diagnosed me with Fibro and I have been in pain every since. I take Elavil every night for chronic pain, but it never really improves. Wish I had better news. Good luck.

Hypothyroid

I've had the same problems over the past 40 yrs. I went to the Dr. today. She is going to put me on armour. I've been on synthyroid for many years. Taking the med in every possible dosage. On a day off a day, you name it , I've tried it. The aching is so bad at times I can hardly walk. She is leaving me on the synthyroid and adding alittle armour. I also have a little adrenal fatigue. I've done the saliva tests. I feel very positive about the armour. The synthetic just didn't work for me. Don't give up. On the synthetics it takes awhile to feel a change. Whether is good or not good. A week just isn't long enough. I felt good for periods of time, then back to the feeling like hell. I will kept you posted as I will start my new med Thurs a.m.

Hypothyroid/thyroid cancer
Submitted by Guest on Saturday, 1 September, 2007 - 12:06pm

I'm glad to have come across this site. I've was researching more about synthyroid. 5 months ago I had two tumours and my thyroid removed. One of the tumours was cancerous. I opted out of radiation therapy as the cons were larger than the pros. As well I still may want to have a child one day soon. I've been feeling horrible lately. Severe aches and pains and ended up in Emergency on morphine for severe abdominal pain. I've been popping 400mg of Advil for months. I'm a patient person, but this is crazy! Apparently I have a high level of synthyroid in my blood, but my brain isn't reading it. Strange. I'm so frustrated with the added pounds too. After surgery I was so underweight and then I gained a tonne! It's so depressing and I eat a very healthy diet and exercise a lot. My serum calcium plumetted after surgery and it's still too low. Does anyone have any words of wisdom out there?
