mood swings

thyroidstory.mivox.com was started as a simple blog dealing with my new diagnosis of hypothyroidism. Topics include medical information about hypothyroidism, information about hypothyroid medications like levothyroxine (Synthroid) and Armour Thyroid, as well as natural supplements like Thyromine, vincopectine and various vitamins and minerals. The site has now expanded to include discussion forums where other hypothyroid patients can discuss their experiences with hypothyroidism, and share tips for what medications, supplements and weight loss strategies have worked best for them.

I used to have much worse mood swings before I was on medication.

Are your mood swings recent? Could there be anything else that's causing them? Hypothyroidism has SO many effects on the body, it's easy to start blaming ALL your physical/emotional problems on it, but sometimes it's best to look for other causes first.

I dnt know if it may be termed as mood swings, but I noticed that I tend to be feeling rather down on some days. I dnt even know if it is due to the medications or simply to the hypo condition. but indeed hypo meds do have a lot of effects on us.

mood swings/splitting armour dose

Try taking evening primrose oil (epo) and omega 3,6,9 fish oil. If you are really moody try researching Sam-e. I don't take it but I do take the EPO and fish oil.

As for the splitting doses, Armour works better if you let it dissolve under your tongue or in your cheek. I've read where you don't need to take a dose late night. I use to take my doses around 2am and someone told me to stop because our body needed that time to do the coverting on it's own. Split your dose and let it dissolve but take that additional dose in the afternoon.

Rubbing hydrocortisone on you may help if you have a little fatigue. I was told this trick a few years ago when I didn't have Cortef. If I am especially fatigued I take Cortef for a couple of weeks. Isocort can be purchased without a Rx and it helps but Cortef needs a Rx.

Take B complex and Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps the adrenals. I have tried Nutri-Meds, etc and don't have much luck with those type supplements for thyroid and adrenal.

Get a thermometer from Dr. Wilson's site and take your temperature daily and throughout the day.

As hard as it is to get drs to prescribe appropriate medication for thyroid conditions, I'd imagine adrenal problems are almost as much of a hassle. The Isocort and hydrocortisone tips could be especially helpful for people. Thanks!
