I'm on thyrolar and I think it's way more convienent than having to mess around with different pills for T3 and T4 and it's less expensive because I pay for it out of pocket. They sometimes use thyrolar for children, so it's probable that they have the ratios close to correct as well. Thyrolar dosage is baised on weight and their site can help you figure out what dosage might be right for you. I take my thyrolar first thing in the morning because T3 is relatively short acting and I'm going to be active. When I was on just T4 I was needing to take the majority in the morning and a small amount in the evening to get through the night. Now I just take it in the morning.

I suspect that I am allergic to my thyroid meds. I've tried them all. I have had hives for 13 years and the only time they disapeared
was when I went off all my meds for two weeks and as soon as I started back on synthroid they returned. Can someone help me?

I have a cystamatic goiter, have had it for a year-that I know of. Over the past 3 years I have had my thyroid tested mainly because I feel like crap and have classic hypothyroid symptoms. Each dr passed it off as being a tired new parent or a parent to a few kids an a new born etc. My levels are always at the low end of being normal in the mid to low 0.5X. My last level that was taken last week was 0.58. Is this consistant w/hyper or hypothyriod and should I request/push for medication? I have wicked headaches that land me in bed for days at a time, horrible mood swings and I am constantly on the verge of falling asleep. I don't know what to do and any help would be appriciated.

Ok so here is my story - almost 4 years ago when I turned 18 I had RAI for Graves Disease (had racing heart that wouldn't calm down and was almost passing out when didn't eat as soon as I felt slightly hungary) within about 2 months maybe less I was put on 112mcg of synthroid which I was on it for about 6 months. I then had my medication upped alot - went up as much as 150mcg - was then in the hospital after a month after being on that dose because it was to high and my heart started racing. I was then bumped down to 137mcg I believe and was on that for about a year. Then I was upped to 150mcg which I was also on for almost a year. That started not being enough and I started alternating between 150mcg and 175mcg and felt great for a little over 6 months - weight came off, eye bugging and itching went away everything felt normal again!! Then all of the sudden I started getting migrains everyday for a month and discovered it was off again - only to high now! I have gone all the way back down to 112mcg, switched to levoxyl for 2 months still didnt' feel right, tried armour and felt so bad I could hardly get out of bed for a month. I have been back on levoxyl for about 4 months, we tried alternating between 112mcgg and 125mcg and that suddenly became to high - am now taking 125mcg every third day and have been for a week but it has gone even higher now! My TSH over the past 2 and a half months has gone from .6 on armour to 3.65 on 112 mcg of levoxyl, then to 2.16, 2.28 we then starting alternating and it wen to 1.63, then to .386 this most recent one with the everything third day thing is at .35 - I'm at a loss. I'm considering tyring either the Synthroid with Cytomel or Thyrolar - anyone else going through this and any advise? Oh and I have been tested for other auto-immune disease along with my vitamin levels. Also when my medicine is wrong I get hives that only go away when I go in the sun or to the tanning bed - is this happening to any one else?

Have been on thyrolar for 6 months

I have been on Thyrolar 1 for 6 months now. I was previously on Synthroid and the generic Synthroid, but I had allergic reactions to them and actually felt worse than before I was diagnosed Hypo and taking nothing. I had to find a new endo because mine was moving out of state. I originally asked to be put on Armour, she suggested the Thyrolar but said that she would not object to putting me on the Armour if the Thyrolar didn't work for me. I felt better at first on the Thyrolar and even lost maybe 3 lbs. or so. Now I am back to being tired all the time and feeling bloated, face breaking out, almost like being on Synthroid again. I go back for more blood test and Dr. visit on Jan. 3rd (by my request), I am going to request to be put on the Armour and I pray that I will start to feel more like my old self again if it agrees with me. I know that I am not alone and that is what keeps me looking for the right combination for me.

Hi, hopefully you've been treated by now. It took me years to finally get treated because I have Hashimoto's Autoimmune Thyroiditis which does not show up on the regular panel of tests.
I went to see a nutritionist who directed me to Dr. Stephen Langer's book "Solved: The riddle of illness". Eventually, I actually flew to his office in Berkeley CA because doctors refused to give me the necessary tests. I had same symptoms as you, they said about the same thing they told you. I just found this: http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/drlanger.htm Also, at www.sweety.com (I guess she sells splenda) she has info on her thyroid lump and treatment. Hope it's helpful. Oops, forgot to say I use Armour Thyroid.

Thanks for your reply. I have now been on Armour for 3 full months. My biggest problem is that my Doc obviously does not know how to dose it. I started on 1 grain, 60 mg. I had alot more energy for the first 2 weeks and finally 1 month later I asked my doc if I could increase my dose because I was feeling hypo again, she said not without a new blood test. When I asked her if I could have Free T3, and T4 along with Saliva test for possible adrenal problems she more or less told me that we would talk about it at my next appt. on April 20th, after all she is the expert and that is what I am paying her for. She did not know what was making me feel like I would need all of these test.
I have not cancelled my appt. with her yet, but I can't see wasting my time and frustrations on her.
Like alot of others I have learned alot on the internet. I started taking licorice root a few weeks ago and have been able to raise my armour without any problems so far. I know that you need to hold your raises at least 2 weeks if not longer after you reach 3 grains.
It is too bad that there aren't many good docs like yours.
How much armour do you take and what kind of supplements do you take to help your thyroid? I forgot to say that I have Hashi's also.

it is my understanding that armour is contraindicated for hasimoto's thyroid..natur-throid is really the better of all the replacements
for any hypothyroid problems...most doc's don't like it however it does not have the side effects of synthroid or the others
