Hypothyroid Medicationsthyroidstory.mivox.com was started as a simple blog dealing with my new diagnosis of hypothyroidism. Topics include medical information about hypothyroidism, information about hypothyroid medications like levothyroxine (Synthroid) and Armour Thyroid, as well as natural supplements like Thyromine, vincopectine and various vitamins and minerals. The site has now expanded to include discussion forums where other hypothyroid patients can discuss their experiences with hypothyroidism, and share tips for what medications, supplements and weight loss strategies have worked best for them.
Had Thyroid removed in 06, cancer, blood pressure normal at 115/60, now rising steadily to 190/80. Was on Synthroid, switched to Armour 2 days ago. Anyone else doing the same thing?
I have a family history and classic hypothyroid symptoms and finally found a doctor willing to prescribe Armour to me after having doctors tell me I have a normal TSH or I'm just depressed. I'm tired of feeling tired. I try to workout, but yawn through exercises and still gain weight. I've seen a nutritionist who is baffled as to why I can't lose weight. I take good care of myself - eat mostly vegetarian, have a low stress job and lifestyle and try to sleep 8-9 hours. I'm in my late 20s and feeling exhasted all the time is depressing in itself. 7 comments | read more | quote

A Dr I saw approximately 2 yrs ago put me on a low dose of thyroxine (synthroid) 50 mcg because of some of the symptoms I was having. One being freezing cold all of the time. Dry skin, hair loss, extreme fatigue, constipation, brain fog and the list goes on. I went to my gyn about 3 months ago and she ordered a TSH and T4 test. The results came in my TSH 4.25 and my T4 1.05 so she recommended I see another Dr for this. My General Physician added Armour dosage (.25 grain) or 15 mgs. I had my prescription filled and without knowing the pharmacy that filled it made a mistake and gave me 1.5 grains or 90 mgs. The second day I took it I felt the best I have in a few years. I was on it for two weeks when while talking to my Drs office I mentioned my dose was 90mgs. They asked me to bring my prescription in, I did and they realized the mistake the pharmacy made and had it corrected. I now feel as if I'm not taking anything. I'm back to feeling like I did before I found this wonderful - medicine that I felt gives you life back! I had a new round of bloodwork and go back Tues to my Dr. He was not real willing to prescribe Armour to begin with and I feel pretty certain he will not give the 90mg dose I felt so good on.
This is my first time too the forum. I've been hypo for 40+ years now. I'm on synthyroid. My levels never stays the same, either too high or too low. Adjusting med constantly. I'm pretty much beside myself. Joints ache, lower back aches, weakness. Not doing the activities that I love doing. Traveling and riding horses. Or just being able to stay awake. Sex what's that! I'm going to the Dr. Monday am. We live in a small area with little medical to draw from. California 112 miles north of Santa Barbara. I'm interested in the Armour.
Hello, I am a 30 year old married mother of one beautiful daughter. I have addisons disease that is currently under control with florinef and hydrocortisone. I have been on those for about 14 years. After I had my daughter I developed a goiter and soon after had it removed with radioactive iodine. Then I gained 30 pounds and started on synthroid...AKA "the nightmare pill" I was completely miserable for over 3 years because no doctor listened to me. I finally got on the computer and researched. I found out about armour and went to a new doctor and TOLD him to put me on it. I felt an improvement that day! Now I have been on the same dose 1 grain for over 3 years now. I just recently started to feel my symptoms returning and started to do more research. I'm tired ALL THE TIME, cranky, not losing weight even though I work out and eat very healthy. Migraines,no sex drive and I just don't feel the joy in my life that I know is in me! So, I found some info about cytomel. I read it can really help with all my symptoms. Some people do fine on armour alone but I feel my body is adjusting to this dose and in turn my hypo symptoms are returning. Since I can't get a live person at my doctors office I faxed over some information and in short I told him it's my body and I know I am not feeling right. I would like a trial of the liothyronine and in two weeks let's see how I feel. I also told him I like him,and he has worked with me in the past (he was the only doc that would give me armour) so I am hoping he gives me a chance on it. I just feel at the mercy of the doctors. I can't just go out and get the cytomel, although I honestly feel it will help me achieve my goal....which is to be myself again. Does anyone out there have any advise for me on this issue and what might be a good game plan for my fight for freedom of this horrible illness? 2 comments | read more | quote
Had whole thyroid removed last fall. Had to go on synthroid medication, will remain on it for the rest of my life. My question is how long does it take to see positive results once on this medication? Was started at 200 mcg in January of this year and had to contact my doctor because my symptoms got worse instead of better on the medication. This endo. doctor said that she had to start me on higher level than most people because I also am bipolar and take lithium to control that. Supposedly synthroid and lithium counteract one another and that is why I had to start on a higher level of synthroid. |
