Medical Informationthyroidstory.mivox.com was started as a simple blog dealing with my new diagnosis of hypothyroidism. Topics include medical information about hypothyroidism, information about hypothyroid medications like levothyroxine (Synthroid) and Armour Thyroid, as well as natural supplements like Thyromine, vincopectine and various vitamins and minerals. The site has now expanded to include discussion forums where other hypothyroid patients can discuss their experiences with hypothyroidism, and share tips for what medications, supplements and weight loss strategies have worked best for them.
I think I am suffering from an iodine deficiency. I made the stupid mistake of drinking the juice of cabbage and broccoli before finding out that these vege are goitrogenic.About a week or two ago I started to have a tight feeling in my neck, joint pains and a dry mouth.
I have been diagnosed with a high TSH all my life. Have always refused treatment. As I get older I am careful to get annual checkups and listen (try) to my DR's. I know my body is changing. I am 60yrs old, 187 lbs, 6' tall, muscular and play two complete soccer games every Sunday, go to the gym on Wednesdays, rebuild houses on the weekends, Ski, scuba etc. I have high energy and do not seem to have symptoms other than I seem to need more blankets at night that most folks. I also have a very large appetite. Almost embarrassing hungry. My TSH is 18.59, Free T4 is .69, T3 86, Cholesterol 209, Blood Sugar 100, every thing else is within suggested ranges. My work is very stressfull. I do get cold if I sit for extended periods in airconditioned rooms in the 60 degree range.

My story begins a weeks and a half ago. I woke up on a Thurs with severe muscle and joint pain. My hands and feet were swollen and I felt exhausted and in a cloud. I assumed I was getting sick until 4 days had passed with no improvement and no other symptoms (IE:fever, stomach ache etc.) Finally I went to the E.R.

What started as a simple left side jaw pain last week, has turned into a nightmare after using THYROMINE. The pain started in my jaw, traveled upward toward the left side of my face, swelling to my right side of my face continued, and now numbness to my left side of my lower lip, and jawline.
Hi! I'm new here. I am making this post because no one seems to know what is causing my current problems. For a little over 30 years I have taken thyroid. When I first began I took a product called Thyrolar 5, after they took that off the market my doctor moved me to Armour Thyroid 5 Grain (300 mg). One tablet daily in the morning.
PLS SKIP TO THE LAST LINE FOR MY QUESTION, ALL THE WRITE UP IS JUST BACKGOUND INFO. So, after my total thyroidectomy, which was 3 yrs ago, I stayed on 250mcg of synthroid for about a year and was supposed to revisit my doc for a follow up. I Never did. He was in TX and I was in AL. 6 mths after the expected follow up, he cuts me off my medication. Long story short, from mid 2004 till now I have not been prescribed anything close to my proper dosage due to constant relocation without my medical records, I have learnt my lesson though. Anyways, as a college student now in the process of getting my master's degree, the brunt of years without proper medication, has started to take its toll, my last blood test came up with a TSH of 30.0, the doc said I am supposed to be below 0.5. He was surprised I never spoke of severe symptoms, but I think I was so used to living like a zombie that I thought it was normal. 3 comments | read more | quote
I have been on synthroid for approx. 4 years. Have been sluggish, foggy and rapid heart rate. Figured the sluggish and foggy were due to another medical reason. Switched to armour 2 1/2 months ago and the fogginess went away, had more energy however, I could not sleep at night and my hair was falling out by the handfulls for the entire 2 1/2 months - never slowed down, I know that when you switch some hair loss is normal but, this was not. |
