Switching to Armour and blood pressure

thyroidstory.mivox.com was started as a simple blog dealing with my new diagnosis of hypothyroidism. Topics include medical information about hypothyroidism, information about hypothyroid medications like levothyroxine (Synthroid) and Armour Thyroid, as well as natural supplements like Thyromine, vincopectine and various vitamins and minerals. The site has now expanded to include discussion forums where other hypothyroid patients can discuss their experiences with hypothyroidism, and share tips for what medications, supplements and weight loss strategies have worked best for them.

Hi, I'm new here so sorry if it's already been discussed.

Since I've been hypo my blood pressure has been a little on the high side (125/80-130/85). I've been on Levolxyl for 10 weeks and added Cytomel 2 weeks ago. Recently my bp has been creeping up. This morning it was 135/88. I'm getting worried. Although I've been feeling better overall I think these meds are not dealing with the fluid retention very well. The morning bags under my eyes have been actully getting worse (my sodium intake has not increased) and the sleep wrinkles litterally take hours to go away. I've heard Armour, probably due to some unknown element, is better at reducing excess fluid than synthetics. I was wondering, has anyone else had trouble getting bp and excess fluid down with synthetics and found that switching to Armour resolved the issues?

Re: Fluid Retention

I took synthetics very briefly about 15 years ago. I only stopped because I quit going to the doctor who prescribed them. A few months ago I began developing symptoms of who knows what, so I started doing some serious Internet research. I realized that I was hypothyroid. I think what probably clinched it for me was this site, in a post in which Mivox mentioned her swollen sausage feet. I had never had any significant problem with fluid retention, but suddenly I developed these horrendously swollen feet and ankles. I even had to buy new shoes a whole size larger than usual. I kept telling the shoe salesman at Nordstrom that, really, my feet used to be normal sized!!

Once I started Armour it literally was a matter of days when my feet deflated back to their normal size. I began on one grain of Armour the end of June; now, two and a half months later I am up to three grains and keep adding more and more supplements to my routine. I'm really starting to feel good, so I think Armour might be worth trying...if you can find a doctor who will prescribe it.

The blood pressure is a signal for other health conditions too. You have the right to be worried and I think you should pay a visit to your medic asap, I know what blood pressure and cholesterol means, I am on lipitor now.
